Vice President of Category Management Lazada Indonesia, Canggih Satria Tama, stated that they are still committed to promoting sustainable business in Indonesia. Therefore, when Permendag No. 31/2023 concerning the trade of goods from abroad was issued, Lazada automatically complied with the provisions.
“We ensure that there are no more importers on Lazada, and this closure does not have a significant impact because the proportion of importers on Lazada Indonesia is less than 1%,” explained Canggih during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (27/10/2023).
According to Canggih, transactions on Lazada have actually increased in the past three weeks, as the company believes that local sellers are their strength.
“In the future, we will continue to innovate, especially since we believe that the competition will be tough. However, we assure that the ones who will benefit are the sellers and buyers,” concluded Canggih.
It should be noted that this year the government issued Peraturan Menteri Perdagangan (Permendag) No. 31/2023 concerning Business Licensing, Advertising, Development, and Supervision of Business Players in Electronic Trading. This regulation was enacted and effective since September 26, 2023.
In Article 66 of the new Permendag No. 31/2023, it has been stipulated that Permendag No. 50/2020 concerning Business Licensing, Advertising, Development, and Supervision of Business Players in Electronic Trading (Berita Negara Republik Indonesia Year 2020 No. 498) is revoked and declared no longer valid.
Previously, Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan mentioned that Permendag No. 31/2023 is the mandate of the President to the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (Kemenkop UKM) to enhance the protection of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as domestic business players.
