Two high school students from Papua recently had the honor of being selected to join Indonesia’s prestigious Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka) as part of the country’s 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage, representing Papua Pegunungan Province, and Stincek Laramiapa, representing Papua Tengah Province, expressed their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in such a significant event alongside President Prabowo Subianto.

Franciscus and Stincek both went through a rigorous selection process, starting at the district level and progressing to the provincial and national stages. Franciscus faced challenges with the physical training due to his lack of prior experience in activities like running, push-ups, and sit-ups. Despite the initial difficulties, he embraced the opportunity gratefully and appreciated the chance to meet the President in person.

Stincek, on the other hand, emphasized her dedication to giving her best performance during the flag-raising ceremony. She expressed her commitment to raising the national flag with pride and making her country proud. While initially doubting her abilities to reach the national level, Stincek was delighted to be part of the Paskibraka team and to have forged strong bonds with fellow members from all 38 provinces during training.

Both students acknowledged feeling nervous about the upcoming performance on August 17, particularly the prospect of meeting the President face to face. However, their excitement and joy overshadowed their apprehensions, knowing that their hard work and determination had led them to this moment. They emphasized the importance of teamwork, unity, and camaraderie in successfully carrying out their responsibilities as members of the elite flag-raising troop.

As they prepare for the grand occasion, Franciscus and Stincek remain grateful for the opportunity to represent their provinces and the nation as part of the Paskibraka team. Their dedication and enthusiasm serve as a testament to their commitment to honoring Indonesia’s Independence Day with pride and excellence.
