Unlocking Better Health: Free Health Checks for Disease Prevention

The Free Health Check (CKG) program is hailed as the initial step in promoting a healthier nation. According to Hariqo Wibawa Satria, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), this program aims to shift people’s mindset towards prioritizing their well-being. It serves as a crucial starting point towards liberating individuals from diseases, fostering awareness, and instilling a lifelong commitment to health. President Prabowo’s administration has launched various priority programs like CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, and initiatives to enhance regional public hospitals. These efforts also include providing incentives for medical specialists in remote areas (DTPK).

Despite Indonesia celebrating its 80th Independence Day, the country continues to struggle with disease, which poses economic and social challenges. Illnesses significantly impact productivity and GDP, with studies showing that health-related issues can diminish GDP by 6.5% to 7.2% by 2030. Economic losses from smoking, obesity, and tropical diseases further highlight the urgency of investing in health as a strategic economic asset.

Hariqo emphasized the importance of addressing health issues among Indonesian children, such as diabetes, obesity, and dental problems. Factors like lack of health education and excessive gadget use contribute to these conditions. The CKG program plays a vital role in prevention and education, aiming to create a healthier population that can actively contribute to national development and economic growth.

Enhancing public health would not only increase life expectancy but also boost human resource productivity and GDP. Studies suggest that a significant drop in illness rates could lead to an annual GDP growth of 1–2%. The vision is for each Independence Day to mark progress in reducing illness rates, empowering individuals to play a more active role in driving economic prosperity and national development.
